Arctic Blast To Bring Coldest Temps Statewide; Winter Storm to Central Alabama

SHORT-TERM: Today through Tonight

A dusting of snow will be possible across far northern Alabama and the higher elevations of the Cumberland Plateau Sunday night. If any accumulations occur, they will be light and no impacts are anticipated.

Temperatures will fall throughout the day on Sunday and plummet into the teens on Sunday night.

NEAR-TERM: Monday through Tuesday

Bitter cold temperatures will settle into the region on Monday, and we will struggle even to reach 30° in most areas. Dangerous wind chill values will accompany, and Cold Weather Advisories have been issued for a good chunk of our Coverage Zones.

A Cold Weather Advisory has been issued for north Alabama and southern middle Tennessee from 12 am (Midnight tonight) to 12 pm (Noon) on Monday. Apparent temperatures (Wind Chills) of -5° to 5° are forecast during this time.
Frigid temperatures on the way next week, with dangerous wind chill values. Medium to high (40-95%) chances for wind chills less than 10 degrees and temperatures less than 20 degrees Monday morning. Similar conditions expected Tuesday morning. What to do: Limit time outdoors, bring pets indoors, cover all exposed skin, let faucets drip slowly.

Winter Storm Chances For Central Alabama

We are monitoring the potential for winter weather on Tuesday. At this time, the best chance for snow appears to be across the southern half of Alabama, but this is subject to change based on the track of an area of low pressure in the Gulf of Mexico. What you can do now is monitor the forecast closely, and prepare people, pets, pipes, and plants for cold temperatures.
Probabilities are increasing across the southern half of Alabama to see accumulating snow on Tuesday. Exact amounts are still uncertain at this time.
