Two Rounds Of Severe Storms Expected Friday (3/18)

SUMMARY: Warm gulf moisture will aid in severe thunderstorms development Friday morning and again in the afternoon. The primary risk with round 1 will be damaging winds of 50+ MPH, with round 2 all modes of severe weather are possible, including tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds. This will greatly depend on how much the atmosphere destabilizes after round 1. Flash flooding will be a threat for portions of central Alabama that have received heavy rainfall.

A few strong/severe storms are possible on Friday. A line of strong thunderstorms will move through the forecast area early to mid-Friday morning. Then, a conditional threat for additional strong to severe storms will exist Friday afternoon and evening just ahead of a cold front. The primary threats will be gusty/damaging winds, small hail, and heavy rainfall. A tornado or two cannot be ruled out with the afternoon and evening activity.
