Tropical Depression Delta is currently centered over Mississippi as of 10:00 AM, while the outer-bands stretch into the Tennessee Valley. As Delta shifts to the east, chances for embedded thunderstorms will increase across the area. Gusty winds of 20-30 MPH can be expected with this activity.
Depending on conditions, chances for a few brief weak tornadoes will be possible. This is greatly dependent on whether temperatures can reach the upper 70’s to around the 80F mark, but overall temperatures are expected to remain in the lower 70’s. Instability is not realized until temperatures get closer to around 80F, which is what makes this a conditional threat. The tornado risk is higher across central/east Alabama due to warmer temperatures expected.
Additionally, heavy rainfall will be a concern with this system leading to a flooding threat. Rainfall amounts anywhere from 2-4″ can be expected. We have been outlined in a Slight Risk for flash flooding by the Weather Prediction Center.
