Migrating From Discord to Slack

Aiming To Prepare, Not To Scare

Migrating From Discord to Slack

Discord has been a fun run, but a lot has been determined and discussed. There’s a lot to talk about, but we’ll keep it simple by narrowing it down.

Discord was for gaming, Slack is for teams and communities.

The voice option in Discord was never used.

Registration should not be required to join a community. With Slack, it’s not required – you will just enter in an email and choose a username

Now that the basics are covered as to why we’re switching, let’s get into a little deeper…

Discord and Slack are two very similiar platforms, but one is for gaming and the other is for communities. I, and the Team believe that switching to Slack — simply put — makes more sense.

There is a voice option in Discord that was never used, so this seems like a wasted feature. With Slack, it’s text-only, which in this case is good.

With Slack, you can either be invited by a Team member or invite yourself to join the Team — which we will have set up on our Slack/Zello Page soon.

You can keep up with the latest on this by following us on Trello: https://trello.com/b/GXMdcPRx/alabama-weather-prediction

We’re still in the process of making this change, so be prepared to see changes throughout our website as we move over.
